MRH Hosts an Evening of Food, Conversation, and the Movie, Food, Inc.
The public is invited to attend “Eat Outside the Box,” a special Earth Day on Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. This free program includes food tastings, a cooking demonstration, and a screening of the Academy Award Nominated documentary, Food, Inc. An informal panel discussion with food experts from the St. Louis area will follow the film.
In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner unwraps the box on our nation's food industry. Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs, Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation.
A panel of food experts will be on hand following the film to answer questions about food in the St. Louis region. The panelists include Mildred Mattfeldt-Beman, chair and professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Saint Louis University, Maddie Earnest of Local Harvest Grocery Café and Catering, and representatives from Slow Food St. Louis.
Prior to the film, guests can enjoy food samples, watch a cooking demonstration by Jason Evans of L’Ecole Culinaire, and learn about urban chicken farming with the MRH Chickenologists. There will also be booths from the Missouri Botanical Garden, books from Left Bank Books, and more.
“Eat Outside the Box” takes place at MRH High School, 7539 Manchester Road, Maplewood. It's an evening you won't want to miss.
This event is a collaboration with P.O.V., PBS' award-winning nonfiction film series.
