MRH Art Integration Program

Art Integration is an organized curriculum designed by both a content area teacher and the art teacher on a unit by unit basis. Thoughtful lessons are designed to meet grade level expectations with creative, independent projects as learning outcomes.
Students participate in lessons that blend core classes with the visual arts. Teachers team up with a conscious effort to apply knowledge and principles to more than one academic discipline simultaneously. Teachers guide students in lessons designed around a performance task where they can make content connections and express their learning visually. With these interdisciplinary lessons learning can be assessed through the culminating activity rather than always using a traditional test or “skill and drill.” Research shows hands-on, project based lessons develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of material.
Students participate in integrated activities in the classroom as well as in planned integrations surrounding expeditions. Each expedition has a visual product that can be created before, during, or after the trip.

MRH Middle School is one of only two schools in the St. Louis area that offer an organized art integration program.
