mrhsd seed to table garden program

Seed to Table kids

Seed to Table is a program developed at the MRH Early Childhood Center in 2006 as a method of helping children learn about nature, science, nutrition, life cycles, and reading through hands-on experiences.

30-40% of adults in the U.S. have difficulty understanding and acting on information about their health or talking with their health care providers.  This grant project is designed to use the gardens as an experiential learning tool to help students apply and engage in hands-on learning related to established curriculum in science, nutrition, health, communication arts, and physical activity.

Specific activities that support the grant include:

  • Collaboration with SLU Nutrition and Dietetic students to develop curriculum resources to accomplish grade level teaching goals
  • Application of health curriculum that helps students understand and use classroom knowledge to make real-life choices
  • Modules in 5th and 8th grade linking health topics to real-life discussions with your doctor about health and disease prevention
  • Programs that increase community interaction and discussion of topics that improve health, wellness, and development of home gardens.
